Strategic Architecture For Global Procurement And Supply Chain Network Management In Nigeria After COVID-19: A Comprehensive Review-Based Analysis

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed critical vulnerabilities in global procurement systems and supply chain networks, particularly in emerging economies such as Nigeria where structural inefficiencies, infrastructure gaps, and overdependence on external suppliers intensified disruption impacts. This study develops a strategic architecture for global procurement and supply chain network management in Nigeria in the post-COVID-19 era through a comprehensive literature-based analysis. Drawing exclusively on established supply chain, procurement, and logistics literature, the paper synthesizes lean, agile, and resilient supply chain paradigms to propose an integrated framework for network redesign and performance optimization.

The study reveals that traditional linear procurement models are inadequate in volatile global environments and emphasizes the need for adaptive multi-pipeline systems (Aitken,J., Childerhouse,P., Christopher,M.,&Towill,D.,2005). Findings highlight that agility, digital integration, and relational coordination are central to post-pandemic supply chain transformation. The proposed strategic architecture integrates supply network design, digital coordination systems, and resilience-oriented governance mechanisms to enhance procurement efficiency and responsiveness in Nigeria.

The paper concludes that Nigerian procurement systems must transition from cost-centric procurement models to strategically networked, digitally enabled, and resilience-driven architectures. This transformation requires institutional reform, technological adoption, and capability development across supply chain actors.
