Publication Ethics Statement
The Emerging Innovations Society: Science, Technology, and Social Studies is devoted to promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct in academic publishing. Our society manages multiple international, open-access journals, each committed to integrity, transparency, and excellence in scholarly communication. We follow the ethical guidelines and principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and other leading publishing bodies to ensure a trustworthy environment for the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
1. Duties of Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to our journals are expected to adhere strictly to the following ethical standards:
-
Originality and Plagiarism: All submitted work must be original. Authors must ensure that their manuscript is free from plagiarism, duplication, data falsification, or manipulation. All sources must be properly cited. Submissions are routinely screened using plagiarism detection tools.
-
Multiple Submissions: Manuscripts must not be simultaneously submitted to more than one journal. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple publications is unethical and unacceptable.
-
Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have influenced their research.
-
Authorship Criteria: Only individuals who have significantly contributed to the research should be listed as authors. All co-authors must approve the final version of the paper and agree to its submission.
-
Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest that could influence the research or its interpretation.
-
Ethical Approval: For studies involving human participants or animals, authors must provide evidence of ethical approval by an appropriate committee and obtain informed consent when applicable.
2. Duties of Editors
Editors play a critical role in ensuring the ethical integrity of the publication process:
-
Fair and Unbiased Evaluation: Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on the basis of academic merit, relevance to the journal’s scope, and originality, without discrimination based on gender, religion, ethnicity, citizenship, or political beliefs.
-
Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must ensure confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and related materials. Manuscripts should not be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and the publisher.
-
Conflict of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
-
Investigation of Misconduct: Editors must take appropriate actions when ethical concerns are raised about a submitted or published paper, including investigations and retractions when necessary.
3. Duties of Reviewers
Peer reviewers are essential to the quality and credibility of academic publications. Reviewers are expected to:
-
Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of the manuscript and not disclose any part of its content or use unpublished data for personal advantage.
-
Objectivity and Constructiveness: Provide objective, constructive, and timely feedback that helps authors improve their work.
-
Conflict of Interest: Decline to review manuscripts where there is a personal or financial conflict of interest with any of the authors or institutions.
-
Recognition of Sources: Inform editors of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published work.
4. Publisher’s Responsibilities
As the publishing body, the Emerging Innovations Society is responsible for:
-
Maintaining Academic Integrity: We strive to ensure that published content meets high academic and ethical standards and that any issues are addressed swiftly and transparently.
-
Supporting Ethical Guidelines: All society journals adopt and promote COPE’s Core Practices and uphold internationally recognized policies for dealing with retractions, errors, and disputes.
-
Ensuring Open Access: All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), allowing for free access, distribution, and reuse with proper attribution to authors.
5. Misconduct and Retractions
When misconduct is alleged:
-
The editor will initiate an investigation, which may involve contacting authors, reviewers, or institutions.
-
If misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, unethical research, or authorship fraud) is confirmed, the article may be retracted or corrected, and the authors' institutions may be notified.
-
Authors may be banned from future submissions if found to violate ethical standards intentionally.
6. Transparency and Openness
The Emerging Innovations Society encourages transparency in all aspects of the research and publication process:
-
Data Sharing: Authors are encouraged to make their research data available whenever possible to support reproducibility.
-
Funding Disclosure: Authors must disclose any sources of funding that supported their research.
-
Open Peer Review (Optional): Some journals may adopt an open peer review process, where reviewer identities or reports are published alongside the article to increase transparency.
The Emerging Innovations Society: Science, Technology, and Social Studies believes in the power of ethical publishing to shape the future of science, technology, and society. We are committed to upholding integrity, preventing misconduct, and fostering a fair, inclusive, and respectful publishing environment for all contributors and readers.
